about this program

U14 Travel

Where players start to take the game seriously.

U14 Travel is the program where players begin to commit fully to field hockey. Two training sessions per week, regular tournament play, and a development environment designed to accelerate every part of a young player's game.

How to join: 2026–27 tryouts

Entry is via annual tryouts. Dallas tryouts take place on Sunday, Aug 30 • 9:30am – 11:30am • Fort Worth Country Day School. (Note the venue — it's the only turf available to us that weekend.)

Tryouts set two teams — Orange (11v11) and White (7v7). Families declare availability for the full travel slate at tryouts — National Hockey Festival (Nov), Sunshine Showcase (Jan), and The Midwest Cup (May). Availability for all three is required for Orange team consideration; White players choose their tournaments. White is often where newer players build their game — many of our players first pick up a stick in middle school. Teams are set in August, and the last week of January — after Sunshine Showcase — is the one point in the season when players can move between teams.

Training attendance: the expectation is 80%, and we track it — attendance is the first thing coaches look at in January. Injured players attend and observe: presence counts, and the team learns together.

Registration is annual, opening the day teams are announced — pay in full or in three installments. Tournament costs are separate, pooled, and split evenly among attending players: the club makes zero profit on travel.

What a week looks like

Monday evening sessions focus on technical work and game scenarios. Wednesday evening sessions build tactical understanding and competitive sharpness.

Tournament play

Players compete in regional tournaments throughout the season. These are formative experiences — players learn what it feels like to compete, how to win with grace, how to lose and come back stronger. Tournaments are where the game truly comes alive. See the full 2026–27 tournament calendar →

Who it's for

Middle school players (grades 7–8) who are ready to commit to a higher level of training and play. Prior hockey experience is preferred but coachable beginners with strong work ethic are welcome.

What you'll gain

A real foundation in the modern game. The competitive confidence that comes from regular tournament play. Friendships forged through shared effort. And a clear pathway forward — U14 Travel players naturally progress into U16-U19 Travel as they enter high school, continuing on the path that has sent so many Lonestar players to college hockey.

From Our Families

Everyone was incredibly patient and kind - the girls all accepted MK into the fold instantly and she never looked back. MK was truly a beginner, field hockey was the first team sport she had played and the learning curve was steep – when her school coach saw her again that fall of 8th grade he was shocked at how much she had improved (a testament to the Lonestar coaches and playing model for sure!).
